The rules
Participation is open to anyone, from any country, who can design 3D objects.
Registration is free and applicants must accept the underlying conditions.
By participating you accept the conditions below.
1. Organisation
This design competition is organised by Jakajima and sponsored by Ultimaking Ltd and Shapeways. The project management and all operational activities are arranged by Jakajima.

2. Briefing
The briefing for this competition is simple and straightforward:
Suppose you had a 3D printer at home. What would be the first consumer
product you would like to 3D print and use.
Realize that you can go far beyond the traditional mass manufactured
products.
3. Awards and prizes
For the winners of the competition the following prizes are offered:
• Winners will be announced on October 25, 2011 during the 3D Printing Event 2011.
• 1st prize: Ultimaker 3D Printer and 3D print of the design;
• 2nd prize: 3D Scanner and 3D print of the design;
• 3rd prize: 3D print of the design.
4. The jury and the design criteria
After a participant has uploaded his design, everybody can vote for this design via Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin. Therefore it helps to promote your own design as much as possible!
After the closing of the registration / participation period (October 20 2011), the top 10 rated products will be judged by a panel of independent judges from various industries.
Criteria used by the jury are:
• Degree of innovation
• Functionality and Usefulness
• 3D printablity
• Aesthetic quality
• Ergonomics
• Marketability
• Feasibility
• Quality and clarity of presentation materials
The jury’s decision will be final.
5. The registration and submission deadline
Competition Timeline
Entry for registration opens Wednesday 31th August 2011
Registration and submission closes Thursday 20th October 2011, 18:00 local time (The
Netherlands, Europe)
After you have registered / participated via the registration form, you will be
able to upload your designs.
Submission closes Thursday 20th October 2011, 18:00 local time (The
Netherlands, Europe)
Winners will be announced on October 25, 2011 during the 3D Printing
Event 2011.
6. Registration
Registration is open now, please fill in the form. The competition is an individual competition, meaning that group entries will not be accepted. Applicants are asked to submit only one design.
7. Submit your entry / entries
Entry to this competition is reserved for Individuals from every country in the
world.
The following persons are not allowed to enter:
• members of staff of Jakajima and Shapeways
• members of staff of Shapeways,
• Spouses and family members of staff of the aforementioned companies and groups, and, in general, any persons involved in the planning and organisation of the competition, whether directly or indirectly.
The contents of the submission;
• A 3D Printing at Home Competition entry must contain a .STL or .OBJ file along with a completed online submission form and max. 4 images.
• One 3D Printing at Home Competition entry per person.
• The description should briefly describe why you have chosen for that specific product and design.
• The overall size of the 3D Printing at Home Competition model must be no larger than 10" x 10" x 10" (254 x 254 x 254 mm).
• Any entry that does not include an .STL or .OBJ file, will be considered ineligible for the contest.
• Any entry that is not correct and not printable, will be considered ineligible for the contest.
• All communication in English.
When submitting your concept/idea you will verify that you have accepted the rules mentioned.
8. Intellectual Property Rights
By entering this competition, you:
(a) Warrant that:
• The work is your original work,
• To the best of your knowledge, it is not, and has not been in production or otherwise previously published or exhibited,
• Neither the work nor its use infringes the intellectual property rights (whether a patent, utility model, functional design right, aesthetic design right, trade mark, copyright or any other intellectual property right) of any other person.
Acknowledge that you are solely responsible for the protection of any intellectual property rights you may have in the work.
All 3D Printing at Home Competition entries (including descriptions, designs and/or images) submitted to 3D Printing at Home Competition will remain property of the designer but can be used by 3D Printing at Home Competition / Jakajima for promotional purposes.
9. No reimbursement or employment
Applicants are not entitled to any compensation or reimbursement for any costs. The applicant’s participation shall not constitute employment, assignment or offer of employment or assignment.
10. Use of the applicant’s personal data
Jakajima will use the personal data you submit in connection with the competition for the purpose of administering the competition and evaluating the work.

11. Authorization and Limitation of Liability by Entry
By entering this competition:
(a) you authorize Jakajima to use your name and to exhibit the work publicly,
all for the purpose of this competition, and
(b) you accept that Jakajima and the competition organizers are not
responsible for any damages which you may suffer or claim to suffer by or as a
result of taking part in this competition, the authorized use of your entry and/or
any decision by the jury.
12. Dutch law
This design competition is governed by Dutch law
